I was born in 1983 and grew up in a happy, working-class home. My father was a public school teacher and my three siblings and I stayed at home with my mom. My childhood was filled with fun family activities like camping, playing board games and watching movies. I participated in dance, swimming lessons and gymnastics and I also loved to ride my bike, go ice skating, cook and bake, play with toy cars and Lego’s and play dress up. When I was ten, my family moved to the country on a small farm where I enjoyed planting and harvesting a garden and raising animals including pigs, chickens, cats, dogs, rabbits, sheep and even a horse.
Luke was born in 1984 and is also from a working-class home. His father was a cabinet installer and his mother was a stay at home mom to him and his sister and also ran an in-home daycare throughout his youth. Luke loved playing toy cars and video games and watching football (go Packers!). Every weekend of the summer and fall, Luke and his family traveled to the north woods of Wisconsin and spent their days together out on their boat fishing, on the beach swimming or in the woods exploring. Even when he was home in the suburbs, Luke fished most of the days of his youth in a nearby river and grew up loving to hunt, fish, work on cars and be outdoors, all of which he learned to appreciate from his dad.
How We Met
Luke and I were introduced through Luke’s sister who had a hunch we might hit it off. We lived several hours apart from each other at the time, so we quite literally fell in love through email and texting. Every day we would write each other long email messages back and forth and learn everything we could about one another. When we met for the first time, I thought Luke was super cute (his eyes!) and Luke was surprised how easy I was to talk to. The top left photo is us on one of our very first dates.
Engagement & Wedding
It didn’t take us long to determine that we wanted to “do life” with each other. We shared the same faith and values and we knew we both wanted to have a family. We became engaged eight months after meeting and had a short engagement before getting married in March of 2012. It was a whirlwind but we loved every minute of it. The top left photo is moments after Luke proposed to me. We have been married nine great years and look forward to many, many more.
